If two new hardware leaks over the past few days are to be believed, there’s a brand new AMD Threadripper CPU 3D V-Cache is coming soon. If true, this would mean AMD is combining its most powerful high-core, high-clock-speed processors with game-changing cache, helping the company dominate the gaming CPU market.
Dominance is the right word too. The best gaming CPUs you can buy AMD Now, like the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, including 3D V-Cache technology, it beats the best Intel. These include the latest Intel Arrow Lake CPUs, such as the Intel Core Ultra 7 265K, but their gaming performance isn’t great.
This particular rumor was started by a Report Videocardz received a tip from a reader who showed the manual for an Asus Pro motherboard, which disclosed previously undocumented settings for enabling 3D V-Cache on Threadripper CPUs. Currently, there is no AMD Threadripper with 3D V-Cache, so this would point (if correct) to a completely new version.
On the back of that report, postal A post on the Chiphell forum seems to confirm that AMD Zen 5 Threadripper CPUs with 3D V-Cache are coming soon, with user zhangzhonghao personally “checking the supply chain.” There are no other details, but zhangzhonghao has obtained tables that have correctly predicted AMD releases in the past, and just last week, some brand new AMD Radeon GPUs leaked.
According to Zhang Zhonghao, AMD also plans to integrate 3D V-Cache into future AMD Halo Strix processors, at least for laptops. Due to their limited cooling potential, laptops are generally less capable of powering gamers than a typical gaming PC. The introduction of 3D V-Cache can provide huge advantages, freeing up bandwidth and reducing latency to help deliver smoother frame rates and allow gamers to play more demanding games.
For now, this is all just a rumor – AMD has yet to reveal information about the launch of a new Threadripper CPU or a Halo Strix APU with 3D V-Cache, at least not yet. However, if the company plans to do this, it will further exacerbate Intel’s problems. Intel’s latest Arrow Lake CPU launch hasn’t quite gone as planned, and after a bad year, Intel’s acquisition could be its next big thing, especially if there’s another powerful high-end AMD CPU that Intel can’t deliver Seems to beat the market.
We’ll wait and see what launches in the coming months. In the meantime, check out our AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D guide, as AMD’s latest gaming CPU is almost here, and it already looks capable of beating Intel’s new Core Ultra 9 285K flagship.
